2016 Cigar Trophies Announced by Cigar Journal

Cigar Journal recently announced the winners of the 2016 Cigar Trophies. We reported on the voting for 2016 Cigar Trophies HERE in June.

At Cigar Journal’s invitation, over 300 guests, including industry greats, importers and retailers, attended the awards ceremony and afterparty, both held during the InterTabac trade show.  The trade show takes place in Dortmund, Germany. This is the 16th time Cigar Journal has handed out an award to honor the cigar industry’s outstanding achievements. Here are the winners with a few snarky comments from Cigar Intel:

Best Brand 2016

  • Cuba: Partagas
  • Dominican Republic: Davidoff Winston Churchill
  • Hondura: Alec Bradley Black Market
  • Nicaragua: Perdomo Double Aged 12 Year Vintage
  • USA: Tatuaje Reserva

Best Cigar 2016

  • Cuba: Partagas Serie D No. 5
  • Dominican Republic: La Flor Dominicana La Nox
  • Honduras: Alec Bradley Sanctum Robusto
  • Nicaragua: Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Exclusivo Maduro

Best Value 2016

  • Dominican Republic: Kristoff Ligero Maduro
  • Honduras: Rocky Patel The Edge (Smokey loves these cigars. I should try them again.)
  • Nicaragua: Joya Red

Best Medium Filler 2016

  • Toscana Originale (An award for medium filler? Sounds strange to me. Where is the award for short filler? If so, the award should go to the Rocky Patel Cargo!)

Best Accessory

  • Xikar Forte Lighter (Cigar Intel is not a fan of Xikar lighters. For some reason, every darn one of the lighters we have purchased from Xikar has an issue over time. And trust us, we have bought thousands of dollars worth of Xikar lights. While we absolutely LOVE their cutters and will use them exclusively, the lighters leave something to be desired. . . like the ability to light a cigar consistently.)

Best Cigar Lounge

  • Casa Fuente, Las Vegas (Smokey and I visited Casa Fuente a couple of years ago as part of the Big Smoke. Unfortunately, the place was packed and the exhaust system sucked. Actually, it didn’t suck enough. We left in a hurry in search of breathable air. Someday we will visit when the whole city is not packed with cigar smokers.)

Outstanding Art

  • Henk Luxury Goods

Charity and Community

  • Plasencia Cigars

Ambassador

  • The Cigar Authority (The Cigar Authority is a great podcast. A little too much jammering about non-cigar stuff but it is the best cigar podcast out there.)

Lifetime Achievement

  • Manuel Quesada

c.gar loves all things cigar-related. He typically falls in love with cigars that are discontinued shortly thereafter. His first cigar was a Swisher Sweet with a wood tip. Sadly, these are still in production.
