One of the oldest premium cigar retailers in the United States, the origins of Holt’s Cigar Company date back to 1898. The company has been operated and headquartered in Philly since it opened over 120 years ago. Holt’s hosts numerous cigar events in Philadelphia throughout the year.

Today, the historic smokeshop is home to over 550 premium cigar brands with two bustling retail locations. The company’s flagship store at 1522 Walnut Street is right in the heart of downtown Philadelphia, while a second location at 12270 Townsend Road in the city’s Northeast corridor hosts a spacious and modern members’ lounge just off I-95.

Fuente Mania: A Feast for Fans of Fuente Fuente OpusX

One of the biggest events in the entire cigar business takes place at Holt’s every fall: Fuente Mania. The two-day affair attracts cigar lovers from all over the country, especially diehard Arturo Fuente fans who come exclusively to stock up on ultra-rare boxes of Fuente Fuente OpusX cigars, in addition to many other hard-to-find blends. Consumers who attend enjoy exclusive access to prized Fuente rarities like Arturo Fuente Anejo, Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Eye of the Shark, Arturo Fuente Magnum R, Arturo Fuente Casa Cuba, Arturo Fuente Casa Fuente (usually only available at the Casa Fuente lounge in Las Vegas), and many more. 

This year, Fuente Mania falls on Thursday, October 10th, 2019 (Holt’s on Townsend Road) and Friday, October 11th, 2019 (Holt’s on Walnut Street). Get there early to get your favorite box of OpusX. A line stretches around the block before the store is even open. Fuente Mania is open to the public. Tickets are NOT required. 

Pepin Mania: Nicaragua’s Biggest Brands

Pepin Mania is another huge event at Holt’s Cigar Company. Pepin Mania usually lands in late spring or early summer. What sets Pepin Mania apart from other cigar events is the sheer number of brands featured. Every box and brand that comes out of the Garcia family’s award-winning cigar factory in Estelí, Nicaragua is eligible for a discount or store special for the entire day. My Father, La Aroma de Cuba, Flor de las Antillas, San Cristobal, Tatuaje, Jaime Garcia, Don Pepin Garcia, and many more are included. You can also meet the Garcia family in person.

Ashton Cigar Bar: Holt’s Event After Parties

Ashton Cigar Bar is one more reason it’s easy to make Holt’s Cigar Company a must-visit when you’re in Philadelphia. The downtown Holt’s store at 1522 Walnut Street is directly below Ashton Cigar Bar. An oasis for cigar and whiskey lovers, Ashton Cigar Bar is home to one of Pennsylvania’s largest menus of rare and vintage whiskeys. In addition, you can choose from a collection of 200 premium cigars, including several hard-to-find blends like Fuente Fuente OpusX, Arturo Fuente Anejo, and a handful of Ashton Cigar Bar exclusives from My Father, Oliva, Rocky Patel, and more. 

Every month, Ashton Cigar Bar hosts an After Party which coincides with each of the Holt’s retail events on Walnut Street. Enjoy a cocktail and indulge in premium cigars in a sleek but cozy environment where you can light up just like you could before many of today’s prohibitive smoking bans went into effect.
