Senator Marco Rubio Addresses Senate on the Lunacy of FDA Cigar Regulation

On July 26th, 2018, Senator Marco Rubio (R-Florida) spoke on the Senate floor about Federal Drug Adminstration (FDA) regulation of premium cigars. Rubio’s speech was part of the 2019 Federal Spending discussion, allowing Senators to address the Senate on topics of interest to them. Rubio vehemently supported cigar manufacturers and retailers in Florida and the United States. He singled out the JC Newman Factory located in Ybor City, FL, as an example of FDA regulation gone awry. “This industry is on the verge of extinction,” Rubio stated.

FDA Seeks Additional Input on Premium Cigar Cigar Regulation

On March 23rd, 2018, our “friends” at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a notice to the public seeking “additional input, scientific data on patterns of use, and resulting public health impacts of premium cigars.” It seems continually nagging of our legislature and their discussion with the FDA have caused the FDA to potentially reconsider their regulation. In short, we might have a chance to eliminate the regulation of cigars!
