The Tobacconist Handbook: The Essential Guide to Cigars & Pipes

The Tobacconist Handbook: The Essential Guide to Cigars & Pipes is “the” book on the topic of cigars. Written by Jorge L. Armenteros and published in 2009, The Tobacconist Handbook, The Essential Guide to Cigars & Pipes is sponsored by the Tobacconist University. The 200 page paperback book with color illustrations and photos educates the cigar aficionado on all things tobacco. Early chapters discuss the tobacco plant, tobacco growing regions, and how tobacco goes from seed to the cigar and every step in between. The chapter entitled, “Seed to Cigar” has a series of photos illustrating each step in the growing and manufacturing process. The next couple of chapters discuss cigar anatomy and the different shapes and sizes of cigars, aka the vitola. Following these chapters is a chapter discussing pipes. The next chapter covers cigar how-tos, with topics such as lighting a cigar, filling a butane lighter, and how to deal with cigar burn issues. This chapter is comprehensive and answers virtually all of your cigar-related questions. The final three chapters discuss humidor etiquette, cigar myths, tasting cigars. This last chapter is particularly interesting as the author discusses cigar tasting by focusing on each of the senses.

Cigar Intel highly recommends The Tobacconist Handbook as “the” book to own on the cigar lifestyle.

c.gar loves all things cigar-related. He typically falls in love with cigars that are discontinued shortly thereafter. His first cigar was a Swisher Sweet with a wood tip. Sadly, these are still in production.
